The play centers on the story of Howard Roark, an artistically innovative architect who is misunderstood by society and those around him. Roark is an idealist and will not compromise his creative process for anyone. However, are genius and excellence worth sacrificing humanity and empathy? His counterpart, Peter Keating, chooses to give the public the buildings it wants to see, but does not stand out with radical creative solutions. Both characters end up on a reality show, where their every move is followed by cameras, public commentary, and pre-scripted intrigue.
